ACTIVE TRANSPORTATION BREAKOUT: Getting Active in SMARTer Growth Neighborhoods
Most of us have heard of SMART Growth – denser and mixed, but density is not always welcome, and often connotes high-rises or other forms of development that can negatively impact some contexts – NOT SMART to those impacted. So, local context is critical, as are many other system components that make for SMARTer Growth Neighborhood Design.
This presentation will focus on emerging research from UBC Okanagan – showing significant health and safety benefits to a system-based solution. Examples from around North America and the world will be given. This is not new, it is re-discovering what we already know, but putting the pieces together in the proper balance.
