CLIMATE ACTION FORUM 2: Ramping Up Low Carbon Communities in Canada
In 2015, 197 nations signed on to the Paris Agreement, agreeing to slash GHGs in order to keep global warming below two degrees Celsius. Canada’s ability to meet its Paris commitment involves the leadership of local governments, which impact more than 50 percent of GHG emissions and at least 60 percent of energy consumption.
Recognizing the role that local governments have to play in meeting Canada’s commitments is at the core of the Columbia Institute’s 2016 report, Top Asks for Climate Action. The report presented different federal, provincial, and territorial policy recommendations designed for Canadian compliance with the Paris promise. This workshop takes a look at the progress of its recommendations, one year later.
