CONVERSATIONS FOR A ONE PLANET REGION
Canadians have one of the highest ecological footprints in the world, more than five times the Earth’s biocapacity per person. Yet we only have one planet. So if others are to have a fair share of the Earth’s resources and a chance to satisfy human needs (not to mention the needs of non-human species), we need to reduce our footprint by more than 80 percent. At the same time, we want to ensure that we continue to have a high quality of life and live long lives in good health. In Victoria, we are trying to start the conversation about what this ‘One Planet Region’ would mean and what it would look like, because if we can’t imagine it, we can’t design or build it.
