FOOD SYSTEMS/SECURITY FORUM 1: Preserving Farming Through the Lower Mainland Land Matching Pilot
Young Agrarians is piloting Quebec’s innovative Land Bank (Banque de terres) program in the Lower Mainland. Through a matchmaker model, this program works to provide individualized screening of landowners and available farmland, as well as farmers ready to start farm businesses. The matchmaker facilitates potential matches, and then supports with negotiating the terms of a final legal agreement.
Young Agrarians has adapted the Quebec model to British Columbia and is offering this innovative matchmaker service in the Lower Mainland. The long-term goal is to grow this form of ‘land extension’ across Southern, B.C., in partnership with Municipalities and Regional Districts.
