LEADERSHIP & GOVERNANCE BREAKOUT: Celebrating Citizen-Driven Governance – Shaping Our Future Ourselves
Governance in industrial societies has been conventionally left up to elected officials and their staff of regulators, augmented in many sectors by what we call the “private sector”. This usually means commercial players (in particular large ones) with a material interest in the outcome of decision-making.
In the late 20th and 21st centuries, a new player has entered the governance world – the not-for-profit, citizen-driven public interest group. This session will outline how this new player is altering the process and the substance of governance in critical ways.
