Water law reform is occurring all around the world. For the last decade, B.C. has been engaged in an extensive effort to develop and now implement the Water Sustainability Act. This presentation draws on research examining California’s recent devastating drought and the ensuing groundwater law reform, and offers several insights that can guide B.C. as it looks to a more challenging water future.
This presentation will highlight key lessons from California that could help inform the implementation of B.C.’s new Water Sustainability Act, including protection of groundwater and flows for nature, and the urgent need for improved planning and governance.
