WATER STEWARDSHIP FORUM 2: Using Indigenous Knowledge to Inform Watershed Management Planning

November 22, 2017
2:50 pm  -  3:00 pm

The Okanagan Nation Alliance (ONA) is exploring opportunities to develop and lead new approaches that are based on Syilx (Okanagan) knowledge. ONA developed a methodology to apply Syilx knowledge to both existing, and new, Syilx-led watershed planning processes. The methodology was developed through a literature review and case studies and several Syilx knowledge keeper workshops.

The core premise of the methodology, is that a strong foundation of Syilx knowledge is the starting point for shaping watershed planning processes that align with Syilx water laws, principles, and practices; for assertion and practice of our Syilx title, rights, and authority.
