Past Events
Fresh Outlook Foundation’s passion is inspiring community conversations for sustainable change, the key word being “conversations.”
To that end, we have hosted events such as the Climate Action Ripple Effect Summits (CARE) and Expos, HEADS UP! Community Mental Health Summits, the Building SustainABLE Communities (BSC) conference, CommUnity Innovation Lab, Fresh Dialogues, Eco-Blast Kids’ Camp and Concert, REEL CHANGE SustainAbility Film Fest, Breakfast of Champions, Women 4 SustainABILITY, and Talking ‘DIRTy’ x10,000, to engage people from all sectors, age groups, cultures, and genders in dialogue that makes their communities healthier, happier, and more prosperous.
While magical and memorable, event outcomes have also been proven to accelerate the move from vision to action for complete communities. For example, evaluation results from the 2017 BSC conference showed that what delegates learned and who they met measurably changed their lives at home, work, and play.
CARE Summit May 2024
CARE 2024 experienced explosive growth, with 15 teachers, 340 students, and 60 community mentors and project advisors collaborating to create 115 projects in support of the City of Vernon’s Climate Action Plan and UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Projects reflected students’ passions, skills, and creativity in six categories: Nature & Biodiversity, Agriculture & Food, Energy & Buildings, Waste Reduction, Eco-Friendly Transportation, and Human Health & Culture.
Held at the Vernon Curling Club, the CARE Summit celebrated students’ efforts, which were judged by local climate experts and advocates from all sectors. Prizes were awarded based on a variety of social, cultural, environmental, and economic factors, potential community impacts, mentor interactions, and the teams’ display and presentation skills.
CARE Expo May 2024
In 2024, the CARE Community Climate Expo was added to program offerings. On the night before the CARE Student Summit, about 80 exhibitors from local government, business, the nonprofit and arts/culture sectors, and some CARE students showcased their plans, policies, programs, projects, and products for the 300 or so people who attended.
The purpose of the expo was to build awareness around climate action in the community, foster networking and idea-sharing, and mobilize collaborative climate action on all fronts.
